Who We Are

During each of the weeks the program is offered, 450-500 students go through the program. They are formed into "companies" of 18-20 students who take over the operation of a virtual company for a hypothetical period of three years. Some of the students will work on providing inputs to a computer simulation based on a manufacturing model. They will make all of the "decisions" about the operation of their "company": how many units to manufacture, how much to spend on quality, product development, marketing & advertising, etc. Others in the group will prepare materials for two judged competitions at the end of the week. One is marketing & advertising. They must identify their target market and act out a 60-second TV commercial, a 30-second radio commercial, and one of the students must walk the judges through a virtual web site developed for the company and product. The other is their stockholders presentation. The judges represent the stockholders and the students must present a balance sheet and tell the judges about how they ran their company.

We are looking for people to volunteer as Company Advisors to one of these companies. No business background is necessary. The only qualification is a willingness to work with a group of young adults. The students do the work. The Company Advisor merely helps them find their own answers. Experienced advisors are on hand to help if needed.

What We Do

For 35 years, PFEW has taught students what it takes to make our free enterprise system work. Think of it as a business camp for high school students. The program is available to high school students from throughout the Commonwealth who, in the Fall will be entering their junior or senior years. Over 33,000 students have graduated from the program thus far.
