Who We Are

We are a United Methodist church. Our mission is based on the Great Commission in Matthew 28. One of our visions is to reach out to the people of our community and beyond, expressing the love of God for them. Our journey together is shaped by our history and the vision that God has given to us. As Christians, we embrace the essentials of our 2000-year-old faith outlined in the Apostles and Nicene creeds. As United Methodists, we express our faith in a tradition that has thrived for over 250 years. As a congregation, we carry out our faith as a priesthood of all believers, and we live out the vision as carved into our sanctuary cornerstone, To Know Jesus and Make Him Known. We focus on fulfilling the Great Commission given by Jesus to all Christians, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

What We Do

In 1960, led by Pastor Herbert Blouch and the movement of the Holy Spirit, the congregations of Centerville Evangelical United Brethren and Silver Springs Evangelical United Brethren Church, developed an idea to unify . With much prayer and discernment, the idea became a reality. Our current property at the corner of Marietta Avenue and Stony Battery Road was purchased from Mrs. Bertha Harnish and groundbreaking took place on May 14, 1961. Hempfield Church was born! In 1968, with the merger of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist Churches, we became Hempfield United Methodist Church.
