Volunteer: Youth Services shelving volunteer: Mondays & Saturdays needed most!Shelving volunteers needed! We are the busiest public library in Lancaster County! In 2024, we circulated 620,000 items, and we depend on our volunteers to keep our operation running smoothly. We're looking for a detail-oriented individual to shelve materials that belong in our Children's Library. Think colorful picture books, board books, graphic novels, and so much more. You will read the call numbers printed on spine labels and return each item to the correct shelf in the correct order. We use stickers in addition to call numbers to label materials and indicate the correct collection. Shelving is an individual, independent task, in an environment that can be busy and noisy. Shifts Volunteer shifts are very flexible and can be tailored to suit your schedule. Right now, we need help on Mondays and Saturdays the most! Early morning shifts can be scheduled before the library opens. Requirements Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and those under 18 years must obtain parent/guardian consent. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered community service hours. We're looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help receive donations of books and other materials from the community. Our team of volunteers accept, move, and sort hundreds of books a week! We need an active individual for our dedicated donation hours to help folks unload and move their donations from their vehicles, into boxes and/or onto carts. This is an individual, independent task, in a public-facing, indoor & outdoor environment that can be busy and noisy. This can be an ideal opportunity for college students! Shifts The full donation hours are Tuesdays & Fridays from 9:00am to 11:00am. Urgent need for volunteers on both days. Requirements Ability to lift boxes up to 50lbs Use carts to move boxes of books from tables to pallets Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and those under 18 years must obtain parent/guardian consent.
