Volunteer: Wellness Support Specialist
A Wellness Support Specialist is a non-clinical, supportive team member who helps clients translate therapeutic goals into real-world action by providing practical, skills-based, and peer-informed support. Working under the supervision of licensed clinicians, the WSS focuses on enhancing daily functioning, reinforcing coping strategies, and reducing barriers to care.
Core Functions:
- Bridge between therapy and daily life: Help clients apply what they’re learning in sessions (e.g., coping skills, communication strategies, routines).
- Psychoeducation & skill-building: Teach and model basic wellness skills (emotional regulation, distress tolerance, problem-solving, self-care).
- Care coordination & navigation: Support clients in accessing resources (appointments, benefits, community supports).
- Engagement & accountability: Provide check-ins, encouragement, and structure
Typical Activities: - Meeting clients in community/home settings (if applicable) - Practicing coping skills in real time - Helping structure weekly goals and routines - Supporting exposure to avoided situations (as directed by clinician) - Assisting with transportation or appointment coordination (depending on program design)
Minimum Required Qualifications: - Age 18+ - High school diploma - Some background in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field (coursework or experience). - Ability to pass background checks - Reliable transportation - Availability to commit to a set schedule (we are asking for a 9 month commitment).
Preferred (but not required) Qualifications: Current undergraduate student or graduate in: Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling Human Services or related field Prior experience in: Mental health settings Crisis support (even informal) Peer support or mentoring Case management or community outreach
