Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program: A team of nearly 400 volunteers in Lancaster County who assist community members with their tax returns.
Purpose of This Position: The VITA Greeter/Scanner is the person is the first point of contact between VITA and clients and will provide a superior customer experience for all VITA clients by facilitating their tax preparation process.
All volunteers must be identified by the end of the year and will begin training in early January 2021. Tax prep appointments will run mid January-April 15th, 2021.
There are several VITA tax-preparation sites across Lancaster County, let us know if you have any geographic preferences.
Responsibilities:
Greeting
1. Welcome client to Site
2. Confirm that they have an appointment
3. Ensure that they are abiding by all established safety protocols
4. Provide client with Intake form and have them complete Section 1
Scanning
1. Organize client documents (prior year tax return, current year tax documents, photo ID, social security cards for all individuals included on the tax return and Intake form)
2. Verify client identity using Photo ID
3. Scan all documents, ensure readable scan and return to client
4. Provide client with paper confirming VITA process and client expectation
Upload of scanned file to Client Management Software
1. Upload client scanned file to Client Management software using established naming convention
Client Tax Return Pick-Up
1. Provide client with tax return (that has already been reviewed with them via phone) and have client sign return
Time Commitment:
· 1 shift (4 hours per week) from mid-January through mid-April
Qualifications:
· No tax preparation experience needed
· Able to Pass IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct Test (training provided)
· Willing to interact with clients for < 10 minutes using PPE
· Willing to follow established safety protocols
· Willing to learn scanning software
· Dedication to United Way of Lancaster County’s and VITA’s mission, vision and values
· Ability to perform with minimal supervision
· Organized, detail oriented
