Provide a new family with their first set of groceries using a provided food list. Purchase and drop off groceries at the CWS Lancaster office for staff delivery. Commitment: 2-3 hours/month for 3 months. No clearances required.

Help set up homes for arriving neighbors by cleaning, moving furniture, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Commitment: 3-4 hours/month for 3 months. Great for one-time group volunteering! No clearances required.

Assist speakers of Arabic, Spanish, Pashto, Dari, Somali, Haitian Creole, Ukrainian, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, and Tigrinya at medical, employment, and legal appointments. Document translation can be done remotely. The commitment is 1-2 hours/week for 3 months. No clearances required.

Volunteers will assist children in ESL & Cultural Orientation classes and other CWS events, working in pairs. Comfort with children of various ages and limited English is required. The commitment is 2-3 hours/month for 3 months. Clearances are needed.

Help CWS staff organize the donation warehouse, manage inventory, and create welcome kits and baskets. Commitment: 2-3 hours/week for 3 months. Great for one-time group volunteering! No clearances required.

Provide transportation for CWS staff and clients to appointments and work in Lancaster and nearby areas. Volunteers must be 21+. Commitment: 2-3 hours/week for 3 months. Clearances required.

Assist the CWS Employment Team with job searches, applications, onboarding, and interview transportation. Ideal volunteers are computer literate, patient, and flexible. Commitment: 2-3 hours/week for 3 months. Clearances required.

Help a new neighbor prepare for the citizenship test by providing one-on-one support. Ideal volunteers should be patient, consistent, and willing to befriend someone in need of instruction. The commitment is 2-3 hours/week for 2 months. Clearances required.

Assist CWS Lancaster staff with data tracking and administrative tasks at the office. Commitment: 2-3 hours/week for 3 months. Clearances required.

Support a 15–24-year-old refugee in their education, career, and personal goals by building a friendship and helping them feel at home in the U.S. Volunteers meet with their mentees for 1 hour/week for a year, at a time and place that works for both. Clearances required.

For nearly six decades, Meals on Wheels of Lancaster has been delivering ready-to-eat meals to individuals in Lancaster County, growing from just 7 clients and 25 volunteers to serving over 168,000 meals to more than 730 clients in 2024. Our meals, prepared in-house by our dedicated staff and volunteers, are delivered Monday through Friday, including holidays, to clients across 20 local zip codes.

As a board member, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the direction of MOWL and ensuring that we can continue to expand our reach and fulfill our mission. We are seeking 3 new board members with experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement and are passionate about creating sustainable giving practices. Grant writing and grant-seeking experience are a plus, as MOWL is focused on building strong donor relationships and advancing our fundraising efforts in 2024 and beyond.

Energetic volunteer needed!

We're looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help receive donations of books and other materials from the community. Our team of volunteers accept, move, and sort hundreds of books a week! We need an active individual for our dedicated donation hours to help folks unload and move their donations from their vehicles, into boxes and/or onto carts.

This is an individual, independent task, in a public-facing, indoor & outdoor environment that can be busy and noisy. This can be an ideal opportunity for college students!

Shifts

The full donation hours are Tuesdays & Fridays from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Urgent need for volunteers on both days.

Requirements

Ability to lift boxes up to 50lbs

Use carts to move boxes of books from tables to pallets

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and those under 18 years must obtain parent/guardian consent. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered community service hours. All volunteers (including minors) must comply with the requirements for clearances in accordance with Pennsylvania law and policies established by Manheim Township Public Library. Clearances must be submitted prior to the start of volunteer service and must be kept up to date to continue volunteering. The required clearances are a Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and either an FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History or Disclosure Statement Application for Volunteers.

What will you do as a Social Media Coordinator?
Responsible for the chapter's social media platforms:

·Respond to social media comments and messages

Handle the Bank Account: Oversee the chapter’s bank account, write checks, deposit funds, and make purchases for the chapter as needed.

Time Commitment:

This role is super flexible! Most of our Treasurers balance this with full-time jobs, dedicating about 1-2 hours per week. Plus, it’s mostly virtual, so you can work from wherever suits you best!

Join the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team and play a vital role in disaster response efforts across Pennsylvania. As a volunteer, you will provide immediate assistance and relief to individuals and families affected by emergencies, offering critical support when needed.

Disaster Response: Deploy to disaster scenes to assess and assist those impacted.

Client Support: Conduct interviews with individuals and families to identify and address their urgent needs.

Shelter & Relief Operations: Help set up and operate shelters, distribute relief supplies, and organize mass feeding efforts.

Ongoing Training: Participate in regular training sessions to prepare for response efforts.

What You'll Do:

Maintain regular and clear communication with the Chapter Coordinator

Plan, organize, and complete fundraising and community awareness events with local businesses, community partners, clubs, schools, etc.

Secure financial donors

Volunteers are invited to assist in the maintenance of the gardens in the Tanger Arboretum at LancasterHistory. No experience is necessary; just a willingness to join fellow volunteers in weeding, mulching, planting, and many more projects. Get your hands dirty and be out in nature in one of Lancaster County’s hidden gems, the Tanger Arboretum!

Tanger Arboretum Volunteer Gardeners meet weekly on Tuesday mornings, 9am – 12pm, from May through mid-November, on-site at LancasterHistory Museum & Research Center, 230 N. President Avenue, Lancaster, PA.

The volunteer group moves throughout the 11-acre Tanger Arboretum, so there’s always something new to experience. Daily project details will be communicated via email or another mutually agreed upon form of communication.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

This is a volunteer position with no monetary compensation or benefits. Volunteers enjoy a 20% discount on purchases made at The Museum Store, invitations to events and socials, and free or reduced admission to programs and events (as applicable) at LancasterHistory.

Hand tools will be provided and volunteers will be instructed on basic tool use and gardening skills. No previous training is required. Volunteers should wear clothing that they don’t mind getting dirty, but can move comfortably in. Please bring a set of garden gloves.

Spend 3 hours per week helping adult learners with basic computer skills such as operating a laptop or desktop computer and similar equipment, navigating internet search tools (Google), using job search websites and other digital platforms, writing a resume, creating a LinkedIn profile, etc.
