Volunteer: Foster a Dog... Save a Life!Fosters needed! Pitties.Love.Peace is in need of reliable foster families for dogs of all ages, sizes, energy levels, and temperaments, including foster homes that have no resident pets. In order to help any dog, we need a suitable match in a foster family willing to open their hearts and home to a furry friend in need. What does fostering for PLP involve, you ask? We have a great foster program and provide everything our foster dogs need, including high quality food, crates, collars/leashes, toys, training, and of course all veterinary care. Foster families simply provide their foster dog with daily care, exercise, love, and socialization. Volunteer: Mentors Needed for Male Students in SDOL
A call for mentors
by Erin Conahan
The first of the three primary goals the school board set for our district is: “Ensure all students have equitable opportunities.” As many of you know, I am deeply invested in this goal.
Now I am calling on community members to serve as mentors for some of our most at-risk students: black males in our middle schools. I chair our district’s Equity Design Team, involving teachers, school directors, principals, students and community leaders. For the past two years, this group has dug into our district data to identify inequities and set priorities. We are concerned about the data we see involving our black middle school students, especially boys in sixth grade. For example: a black male student in our middle schools is four times more likely to be suspended than a white student; and black male students in our middle schools have the lowest achievement on PSSAs compared to other racial groups. Both of these trends are most pronounced beginning in sixth grade. That is why the School District of Lancaster is launching a mentoring program for black boys in sixth grade. We know our students are not broken. We are not here to fix them. We know we need to address the systemic biases in the system and are committed to that work. We have started Deep Equity work across all levels of the school organization, and we have adopted a restorative practices approach to discipline. Still, we believe a mentoring program of an affinity group can disrupt the cycle of failure to improve academic and social outcomes for boys and young men of color. Some have asked me, Why start with such a small group of students to achieve such a broad goal? The answer is targeted universalism, or using targeted strategies to reach universal goals. We believe a strategy that benefits black male middle school students by improving their achievement and reducing their suspensions will benefit all students. Targeted universalism is not just a fancy title for a pilot program. Other student groups may benefit from a similar mentoring program; many may not. We want to implement targeted strategies that are inclusive of the needs of both the dominant and the marginalized groups, but that pay particular attention to the situation of the marginal group. We will collect data and determine how mentoring impacts students’ approaches to school. We already have identified several mentors, but we need additional members of the African American community, males in particular, to support this work. For more information, contact Erin Conahan, coordinator of school, family and community partnerships at 717.396.6501 or EKConahan@SDLancaster.org. https://sdlancaster.org/inspire/community-partnerships/champions-for-our-youth/ Agency: School District of Lancaster

You can help support the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Pennsylvania (RMHC-CP) by saving the tabs you pull from canned beverages, pet food, soup, vegetable and other aluminum cans. Volunteer: Fundraise for the Fire Company
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
~Elizabeth Andrew
Volunteering in the fire company can come in many forms and we are always looking for new members to bring their talents and knowledge into our organization. One of the dwindling parts of the fire service that is increasingly effecting us as a company is our Auxiliary. This group of individuals are an essential part of what helps us fund our everyday operational expenses. The auxiliary takes on the roll of holding monthly breakfasts, preparing and selling food at our mudsale, catering different events through the year and other fundraisers. We are now reaching out to you our community that has supported us for so long to see if you or someone you know might be looking for a way to get involved in helping your community.
If any of this seems like something you would be interested in or if you would like to join and bring any of your knowledge or skills to our organization please reach out to us through messenger or contact us by email at Fultonfire89@yahoo.com.

Volunteer: Distribution Liaisons Needed for Power Packs ProjectPower Packs Project is in need of volunteers to serve as Distribution Site Liaisons and assist school sites with weekly Power Packs distributions. We’re looking to incorporate more Power Packs volunteers in the schools to assist with weekly distributions. Distribution site teams, comprised by 3-4 volunteers will manage all things with distribution. Volunteer Drivers ( 1-2 drivers) will do warehouse pick up and drop off to schools, and Distribution Liaisons (1-2 volunteers) with the assistance of school liaison will manage all distribution at the site, giving packs to participants, recording pick up, obtaining TEFAP forms and returning all forms and leftover items to warehouse at end of distribution. Interested individuals will need to be available at the school WEDNESDAYS 2:30PM-4:00 PM. We understand school staff are stretched and it’s become too difficult to manage weekly distributions. This new set up is to address the staffing issues that have occurred last school year that resulted challenges of families unable to pick up at the school. School Liaisons can work with the Distribution Liaisons to ensure weekly distributions are successful. The addition of Distribution Site Teams will impact school site delivery schedules since they will only need to arrive up to 1 hour prior to site distribution time. School Liaisons will work closely with Distribution Site Team to ensure distribution space is available and assist with participant engagement. * Child Abuse, Criminal, FBI clearances required for all positions. Please contact Lancaster Region Director Annette Rosa Pabon at (717)517-9220 or annette@powerpacksproject.org for further details.
