The PA Medi Program at Lancaster County Office of Aging is recruiting Volunteer Counselors to answer questions and provide unbiased assistance to beneficiaries. This is done either working remotely from home via phone, or over phone/in person in our office about Medicare, Medicaid, Advantage and Gap plans, Part D, PACE and other related topics. Extensive training is available. Volunteers must have computer literacy and ability to speak well over phone. Must be able to get along well with people. Disaster Health Services Responders provide disaster health care by meeting the disaster related health needs of clients and providing support to other volunteers.

Lancaster Science Factory exhibit floor volunteers interact with guests, maintain exhibits, demonstrate science experiments, develop relationships with visitors and help with special events. An exciting branch of our organization is the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. At this location, community members can come by to shop for supplies to help with home renovations. The funds raised at ReStore are then used to support our organization. Without the helping hands of our many volunteers, our donation center and retail store would not be able to operate as efficiently as it does. 

Please consider lending a hand at ReStore. Our volunteer team has several important roles within our store at varying hours and days. No experience is required! Common tasks may include: organizing and sorting donations, cleaning, pricing items, assisting customers in the store, and MORE.

United Churches Elizabethtown Area is looking for volunteers to help with the construction of the new social services building on the Community Place on Washington campus every other Saturday, 8 am until noon.  The next day will be August 21st. No experience is necessary.  Volunteers clean, paint, or do whatever needs to be done at that time.

The RMHC-CP Hospitality Kiosk Center is focused on helping families who have an infant or child on the pediatric floor at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital by providing drinks, snacks, health & beauty aids, crafts, books, and other supplies. The Hospitality Kiosk makes it easy for the families on the pediatric floor to get items that provide nourishment and stress relief while staying close to the patient (their child).

Your role as a Kiosk Volunteer on the pediatric floor is to be the host/hostess of the family-focused lounge. This includes but is not limited to: greeting families with a smile, monitoring the daily operations, and light cleaning to name a few. The Kiosk Volunteer will be helping families, during a difficult and stressful time, feel comfortable in an unfamiliar place. The Kiosk is open for families from 8 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. There are other jobs when the kiosk isn't open. 

We are in need of volunteers to help prep and distribute our community meals Mondays through Saturdays. Requires the ability to stand for a long period of time while helping in the kitchen packing the meals, placing dishes in the dishwasher and taking out the kitchen trash. If helping on Saturdays, volunteers would also assist with distributing the meals to our clients.

Youth experiencing homelessness often lack a supportive adult influence who can help direct them in their education, post high school planning, and building community connections. The Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH) program is sponsoring Champions for Teens (C4T) to support displaced youth in these areas. Through a structured curriculum, C4T offers high school youth experiencing homelessness the opportunity to work with an adult volunteer advocate who will serve as the student's "champion."

Advocates will also be required to have the three clearances necessary to work with children in the state of Pennsylvania:

Advocates must be 26 years of age or older, preferably residing in Berks or Lancaster County. If you have served in the military and are searching for a way to make a difference in the lives of Veterans on hospice services, you belong here. Hospice volunteers are a valuable part of our care team. Veteran volunteers provide companionship (ex: conversation/sharing stories/life review, playing games, light housekeeping, running errands), caregiver relief (to give direct caregivers a break), compassionate listening, and participate in Veteran pinning ceremonies. Veteran volunteers have invaluable insight and may be able to give stress reduction techniques to patients/caregivers, help recognize PTSD in patients, and help patients/caregivers identify and process grief. Volunteers may support patients emotional and/or spiritual healing through sharing a common language and cultural bond.

Kindred strives to provide comfort, compassion, dignity, and peace to terminally ill patients and their families through a holistic approach to physical, spiritual, and emotional care by professionally trained hospice teams and specialized community resources. Our volunteers are a part of that team. The volunteer’s role in hospice care includes patient/family and/or administrative support. Volunteers can provide direct support in the patient’s home or a nursing facility with the purpose of companionship and/or caregiver relief. Lafayette Fire Company seeks volunteers to be a part of capital campaign planning and execution team to fund the replacement Truck 63. The projected cost will be nearly $2 million with a range of $400-$800K responsibility on our volunteers to fundraise by the 2026 delivery date. The capital campaign will focus on stages of creation, commitment & rollout for 2024 and 2025. We are seeking community minded advocates that value the millions of dollars of savings that our volunteer fire company provides the citizens of Lancaster county in time, equipment and services that save life, property & the environment. Power Packs Project is in need of volunteers to serve as Distribution Site Liaisons and assist school sites with weekly Power Packs distributions.

We’re looking to incorporate more Power Packs volunteers in the schools to assist with weekly distributions.  Distribution site teams, comprised by 3-4 volunteers will manage all things with distribution.  Volunteer Drivers ( 1-2 drivers) will do warehouse pick up and drop off to schools, and Distribution Liaisons (1-2 volunteers) with the assistance of school liaison will manage all distribution at the site, giving packs to participants, recording pick up, obtaining TEFAP forms and returning all forms and leftover items to warehouse at end of distribution.  Interested individuals will need to be available at the school WEDNESDAYS 2:30PM-4:00 PM.

We understand school staff are stretched and it’s become too difficult to manage weekly distributions. This new set up is to address the staffing issues that have occurred last school year that resulted challenges of families unable to pick up at the school.  School Liaisons can work with the Distribution Liaisons to ensure weekly distributions are successful.  The addition of Distribution Site Teams will impact school site delivery schedules since they will only need to arrive up to 1 hour prior to site distribution time. School Liaisons will work closely with Distribution Site Team to ensure distribution space is available and assist with participant engagement.

Girls on the Run coaches are trained volunteers who lead a team of participants through a season of powerful and fun lessons. You do not need to be a runner; you simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation. Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.

Coaches are the heart of our program! Each season, two or more volunteer coaches inspire and guide a team through our tried-and-true curriculum. If you're ready to directly make an impact, then this role is for you.

Serving as a Junior Coach is a fun and rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run! This volunteer position is for high school girls aged 16-18 years old who want to grow their leadership skills. Paired with a Mentor Coach, Junior Coaches receive support to develop their own skills while serving as role models to program participants.

Meals on Wheels of Lancaster and Central PA Food Bank have developed a new partnership initative. On a monthly basis, non-perishable foods are provided to low-income seniors by utilizing a home-delivery model. We are seeking volunteers to assist us in delivering these boxes to seniors each month. The boxes contain goods such as canned goods, shelf-stable milk, juice, cereal and other nutritious foods. Generally speaking, these boxes weigh about 20-30 pounds each. Community Educators are volunteer public speakers who help the Alzheimer's Association raise awareness, provide education and expand the reach of education offerings in the community. These volunteers deliver presentations using prepared training materials on topics related to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

Community Connectors represent the Alzheimer’s Association at in-person community health and wellness events and helps to Connect community members to resources and support.
● Identify prospective community and explore their interest in joining the Alzheimer’s
cause or assisting with Alzheimer’s awareness
● Collaborating with local Alzheimer’s Association community educators who deliver
ongoing community education on a variety of caregiving topics

Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity does more than build homes and faith. It also builds leaders. Habitat provides hands-on training and mentorship for new leaders working alongside staff on our construction sites. You will develop new construction and leadership skills while at the same time enriching your community. You will have the opportunity to build a team and build a home from the ground up. Habitat is looking for new leaders to share in this challenge!

The Crew Leader’s principal function is to coach the volunteers to produce acceptable results safely. A Crew Leader can usually guide four to five unskilled or semi-skilled volunteers. Crew Leaders demonstrate tasks, maintain standards, monitor safety, and ensure that the volunteers have enough meaningful work to have a satisfying experience. A Crew Leader should be a people person, possess some basic construction aptitude, enjoy leadership, and be able to learn tasks quickly and then demonstrate those tasks to others.

 We are a Christian youth center for kids K-12th grade. We have after school programs and summer programs. We are looking for volunteers to help with those programs. Our volunteers' main job is to build relationships with students. Our mission is to help youth and families thrive through gospel-centered ministries. Our volunteers listen and talk to students, participate in games/activities and point them to Jesus. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in your community.

The Common Wheel is in need of folks to support our programming! Specifically, we are looking for people to assist with our Earn-a-Bike classes, which take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm. A little about the program:

Our greatest current need is patriotic-themed blankets and quilts that are used during Veteran Military Pinning Ceremonies to thank veteran patients for their service to our country. During the ceremony, these handmade blankets & quilts, which are lovingly made by seamstress volunteers, are draped over the veteran patient, and then kept by the patient and family as a token of our appreciation for their sacrifice.

Pet Therapy animals must have all necessary, up to date certifications and vaccinations. Training will be provided, and volunteers will receive ongoing support from a team of dedicated Volunteer Coordinators.

The Pennsylvania Furniture Mission is seeking a proficient Spanish speaker and writer to translate our Partner Agency Guide into Spanish. The purpose of our Partner Agency Guide is to share information about our referral process with the organizations that refer their clients to our home furnishing program. There may be opportunities for ongoing volunteer translation work. This project would be the priority, however, there may be additional opportunities in the near future for similar work.

Assist speakers of Arabic, Spanish, Pashto, Dari, Somali, Haitian Creole, Ukrainian, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, and Tigrinya at medical, employment, and legal appointments. Document translation can be done remotely. The commitment is 1-2 hours/week for 3 months. No clearances required.

Volunteers will assist children in ESL & Cultural Orientation classes and other CWS events, working in pairs. Comfort with children of various ages and limited English is required. The commitment is 2-3 hours/month for 3 months. Clearances are needed.

Support a 15–24-year-old refugee in their education, career, and personal goals by building a friendship and helping them feel at home in the U.S. Volunteers meet with their mentees for 1 hour/week for a year, at a time and place that works for both. Clearances required.

For nearly six decades, Meals on Wheels of Lancaster has been delivering ready-to-eat meals to individuals in Lancaster County, growing from just 7 clients and 25 volunteers to serving over 168,000 meals to more than 730 clients in 2024. Our meals, prepared in-house by our dedicated staff and volunteers, are delivered Monday through Friday, including holidays, to clients across 20 local zip codes.

As a board member, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the direction of MOWL and ensuring that we can continue to expand our reach and fulfill our mission. We are seeking 3 new board members with experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement and are passionate about creating sustainable giving practices. Grant writing and grant-seeking experience are a plus, as MOWL is focused on building strong donor relationships and advancing our fundraising efforts in 2024 and beyond.

Tanger Arboretum Volunteer Gardeners meet weekly on Tuesday mornings, 9am – 12pm, from May through mid-November, on-site at LancasterHistory Museum & Research Center, 230 N. President Avenue, Lancaster, PA.

The volunteer group moves throughout the 11-acre Tanger Arboretum, so there’s always something new to experience. Daily project details will be communicated via email or another mutually agreed upon form of communication.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

This is a volunteer position with no monetary compensation or benefits. Volunteers enjoy a 20% discount on purchases made at The Museum Store, invitations to events and socials, and free or reduced admission to programs and events (as applicable) at LancasterHistory.

Hand tools will be provided and volunteers will be instructed on basic tool use and gardening skills. No previous training is required. Volunteers should wear clothing that they don’t mind getting dirty, but can move comfortably in. Please bring a set of garden gloves.

Hospice is specialized care that focuses on providing comfort and support to people with serious, life-limiting illnesses. Our volunteers are a big part of the support structure for patients and families. By giving your time, skills and kindness, Hospice volunteers often find they get back as much as they give. You can share your unique talents through art or music therapy, pet therapy, or sharing any other special gifts that you may have. Every bit of your generosity helps brighten the lives of our patients and their families. Some volunteer opportunities that we have available are but not limited to; being a comforting presence to an individual, bereavement support, writing letters, reading to patients, doing activities that a patient enjoys, helping make phone calls to see if anything is needed by our patients and/or their families.
