Are you looking for a unique & incredibly rewarding way to serve your local community and make a difference? Hospice & Community Care is seeking volunteers to provide companionship, emotional support, and social connection to patients in our care, either in their private residences or senior nursing facilities. Patient visits can be ongoing or a one-time assignment. 

Volunteer Tasks May Include: 

Bringing comfort & companionship to patients through regular, friendly visits  Providing respite care and emotional support to patient caregiversReading to patients, playing games or music, singing, or providing comforting touch Recording & documenting patient's life stories or assisting with memory-making activities  On some occasions, helping to transport patients to appointments or run errands for homebound patients. 

To become a Hospice & Community Care volunteer, you just need to have a compassionate heart and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Training is provided for all volunteers, with both in-person and online options offered throughout the year. A team of dedicated Volunteer Coordinators are available to provide continued support.

Are you a veteran looking for a unique & incredibly rewarding way to serve your local community and make a difference? Hospice & Community Care is seeking Veteran volunteers to participate in our "We Honor Veterans", Vet-to-Vet program. 

Veteran volunteers provide companionship to veteran patients in our care. In addition, Veteran volunteers provide special Veteran Military pinning ceremonies to honor veteran patients, presenting them with military pins, a service certificate, and an American flag to thank them for their service to our country. Veteran volunteers have a special ability to relate and connect with fellow veterans, and this relationship can be incredibly comforting to both the veteran patient and family during their hospice journey. 

To become a Hospice & Community Care Veteran volunteer, you do need to be a military veteran, but also possess a compassionate heart and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Training is provided for all volunteers, with both in-person and online options offered throughout the year. A team of dedicated Volunteer Coordinators are available to provide continued support.

Looking for a unique & incredibly rewarding way to serve your local community and make a difference? Hospice & Community Care's Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center in Mount Joy is a beautiful 24-bed facility designed to be a "home away from home" for patients and their families.

The Inpatient Center needs ongoing volunteer support for the following roles: 

Foyer Volunteers: Be the first smiling face patients and their families see when they enter the Inpatient Center. Foyer volunteers assist families and visitors by providing directions, answering questions and providing a calm, welcoming presence.  Inpatient Center Wing Volunteers: Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, assist the staff with patient support, help with meal preparation and making coffee, organizing and restocking kitchen/pantry supplies, patient laundry, and bringing a hospitality cart to patients and visitors. Meal Time Support Wing Volunteers: Support hospice staff during patient meal times by helping to prepare meals, deliver meals to patient rooms, and assist patients with feeding if they need more assistance.  Music Support Volunteer: Offers the gift of music to patients in the Inpatient Center (voice or instrument).

Hospice & Community Care is seeking skilled volunteer Hair Stylists to provide hair cuts to patients in their home residences, senior nursing facilities, or our Inpatient Center in Mount Joy. 

For patients in our care, this service can provide comfort and joy, and a much-appreciated respite from the daily physical and mental challenges faced as a result of their serious illness. Hair stylist volunteers equally benefit, as their service can bring an immense sense of purpose and satisfaction. 

Hair stylist volunteers must possess a current, valid Pennsylvania Cosmetology license, have their own tools/supplies and reliable transportation. Training will be provided. No time commitment is necessary, and patient visits can be designed to best fit a volunteer's busy schedule.

Volunteer: Pathways Center for Grief and Loss

The Pathways Center for Grief and Loss provides free bereavement support services to the local Lancaster community and is here to help meet the individual needs of anyone in our service area region who is coping with the serious illness or loss of a loved one. From support groups, individual counseling, online support, children’s support groups and more, we welcome the opportunity to support you.

The Pathways Center seeks volunteers to help support the following roles:

Foyer Greeter: Welcomes guests to the Pathways Center, provides administrative support to staff. Bereavement Volunteer: Supports Pathways staff in providing support and companionship to persons who have experienced the death of a loved one, either by personal calls/visits or co-facilitating support groups. Volunteers are also needed to make check-in calls to family members of patients who have passed in the care of Hospice & Community Care.  Coping Kids & Teens Bereavement Volunteer: Provides emotional support, companionship and/or participation in group or individual activities with children who have experienced a loss.  Camp Chimaqua: Camp Chimaqua is a weekend camp for children ages 6-10 which occurs the last weekend in May. Camp "Buddy" volunteers are paired with a camper to provide individual support to a bereaved child during the weekend camp experience.

Hospice & Community Care's SoulMates Teen Volunteer Program is a unique & rewarding way for local young adults, ages 15-18, to give back to their community while also gaining valuable, hands-on professional skills.

SoulMates Teen Volunteers can serve in a variety of roles:
