Who We Are

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. Our core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors. Volunteer coaches meet with 3rd-8th grade girls after school twice per week for 10 weeks to work through these lessons and train for a 5K run, which the girls complete at the end of their season.

What We Do

Molly Barker, a four-time Hawaii Ironman Triathlete, established Girls on the Run? in August of 1996 to celebrate the gifts of girlhood and to address what she calls Girl-Box issues. Currently, there are over 190 GOTR councils in the US and Canada. GOTR of Lancaster was started in 2009 by Carrie Johnson and Jennifer West and has continued to grow each year. Bolstered by a vibrant team of leaders, advisors, and coaches, the organization is passionate about helping girls grow into strong, healthy and self-confident young women.
