Who We Are

Mission Statement: Lancaster County Animal Response Team (CART) is a volunteer organization, part of the PA State Animal Response Team (SART), which responds to animal related emergencies when activated by 911 and provides education to the public on emergency preparedness issues for pets and livestock. We respond to any animal, anytime, when activated by the county EMA. Vision Statement:Lancaster County Animal Response Team (CART) will deploy teams trained to respond, when activated by county 911, to emergencies involving animals using appropriate equipment and techniques in a safe and productive manner. Lancaster CART will work in partnership with other emergency responders; will continually train in new animal response techniques, and will offer educational programs to assist the general public in preparing for animal-related emergencies.

What We Do

CART was activated several years ago, under the State Response Team and has done training and is preparing for responses all the time. We have been activated for several smaller incidents: a horse that was loose and down on a major roadway, loose horses, a cat down a storm drain, etc. We continue to prepare for setting up a housing situation in case of a disaster. We also participate in drilling scenarios with the County.
