Landis Valley Museum

Who We Are

The Landis Valley Museum, a living history village, preserves and interprets the history and material culture of the Pennsylvania German community from 1740 to 1940 and enhances understanding of their successful agricultural practices and interactions with others and their impact on the state and nation for citizens of and visitors to the Commonwealth. Landis Valley Museum includes preserved areas of the original Landis Valley village, as well as facilities developed over the past sixty years. In addition to over twenty exhibit areas, Landis Valley offers a full calendar of special events, workshops, and school programs; an outstanding store; and food service in its historic hotel. Its preservationist Heirloom Seed Project, with gardens, a seed catalog, and educational programs, is nationally recognized.

What We Do

Landis Valley Museum takes its name from the crossroads where it was founded in 1925. Administered today by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), it was created by brothers Henry and George Landis, who managed it until after World War II. A "friends" group established in the 1940s gained non-profit status and now the facility is jointly operated by the Landis Valley Associates and PHMC.
