Who We Are

The mission of Manheim Community Library is to provide a place for the community to turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information. We strive to maintain a varied collection of resources to benefit people of all ages and abilities. We are a public library serving the reading, informational and audio-visual needs of the Manheim Central School District. We have a collection of more than 22,000 items. For the first time, the circulation topped 110,000+ items in 2008, an increase of 24% of 2007. The staff is committed to providing a relevant collection of materials and programming to improve the quality of life in the Manheim area. It is well-known that children who are readers, and come from families where reading is an important recreational activity, have better academic records than those who do not. Manheim Community Library is committed to offering programming, as well as books and movies, that will entice the enhancement of literacy skills. The Library Board has the responsibility to raise funds for the library and conducts two major fundraising activities each year. They host a book sale in the Spring and a Character Breakfast in the Fall. They are seriously considering tackling a capital campaign in the near future to upgrade the current facility.

What We Do

The library has been a fully operating library for 13 years. Prior to that it was a reading room affiliated with the Lancaster County Library. As the library looks to the future it recognizes the need to be in a more convenient location and to be in a larger building.
