Shelving volunteers needed!
We are the busiest public library in Lancaster County! In 2024, we circulated 800,000 items, and we depend on our volunteers to keep our operation running smoothly. We're looking for a detail-oriented individual to focus on re-shelving materials that belong in our Children's Library. Think colorful picture books, board books, graphic novels, and so much more. You will read the call numbers printed on spine labels and return each item to the correct shelf in the correct order. We use stickers in addition to call numbers to label materials and indicate the correct collection.
Shelving is an individual, independent task, in an environment that can be busy and noisy.
Shifts
Volunteer shifts are very flexible and can be tailored to suit your schedule. Right now, we need help on Mondays the most!
Early morning shifts can be scheduled before the library opens.
Requirements
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and those under 18 years must obtain parent/guardian consent. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered community service hours. All volunteers (including minors) must comply with the requirements for clearances in accordance with Pennsylvania law and policies established by Manheim Township Public Library. Clearances must be submitted prior to the start of volunteer service, and must be kept up to date to continue volunteering. The required clearances are a Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and either an FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History or Disclosure Statement Application for Volunteers.
