Overview:

 

As a Family Program Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing support and advocacy to children and youth who have experienced domestic violence. Your responsibilities may include co-facilitating educational groups, engaging in parent/child activities, assisting in the ongoing curriculum development, providing childcare/activities during adult support group sessions and appointments, maintaining documentation, and participating in ongoing training to enhance your knowledge of domestic violence, victims services, evidence-based practices, community resources, and related topics.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Child Advocacy and Support:

Offer support and advocacy to children and youth who have been affected by domestic violence, providing a safe and compassionate environment for them to heal and express themselves.

 

Support Group Facilitation:

Co-facilitate support groups for children and engage in parent/child activities to promote healing and growth.

 

Curriculum Development:

Assist in ongoing curriculum development tailored for the Family Program component.

 

Childcare and Positive Role Modeling:

Provide childcare and engage children in age-appropriate activities during support group sessions and appointments.

Redirect children's behaviors in healthy ways and serve as a positive role model for them.

 

Documentation:

Complete all required documentation related to providing services to both children and adult participants.

 

Volunteer Activity Tracking:

Maintain records of your volunteer activities and submit monthly data to track your contributions.

 

Ongoing Training and Education:

Commit to acquiring a minimum of 10 hours of ongoing training and education in the areas of domestic violence, victims services, evidence-based practices, community resources, and other relevant topics.

 

Qualifications:

 

Compassionate and patient demeanor when working with children and youth.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Ability to engage children in creative and age-appropriate activities.

Willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of the children's program.

Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.
